The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague was founded in 1946 on the basis of the Higher School of the Prague Conservatory. The Academy belongs among the best creative educational institution.
The most famous is the Film and TV School of AMU (FAMU), recognized as one of the best film schools in the world.
The course are taught in Czech (free of charge) and in English (on a fee basis, for example, studying at FAMU costs from 8,700 Euros per year).
The Academy has modern recording studios, concert and rehearsal halls, an extensive music library, and its own theater.
Submission of applications and works: applications for the Bachelor’s degree programs are accepted until November 22, works are accepted until December 1. Exams take place in January.
Applications for the Master’s degree programs are accepted in spring. Exams take place in September.
Admission requirements for foreigners: the foreigners are required to provide a Certificate of proficiency in Czech at B2 level along with the application.
Theater Faculty (DAMU)
It is a modern art school providing education in Humanities of high quality. The selection of students is very strict; the faculty accepts only the most daring and talented people who are able to work in different theatrical styles and do not afraid of experiments. They are taught by famous people from the world of Czech theater, as well as foreign teachers.
The faculty has many connections abroad; students are able to do an internship in the EU or in other countries across the globe. AMU graduates work in the main theaters of the Czech Republic and independent theater associations as theater workers, critics, producers, teachers and authors.

Admission exams take place in several stages. Applicants receive detailed requirements by mail.
Applicants for creative programs are required to demonstrate talent, creativity and corresponding psychophysical capabilities. Applicants for Stage Design programs must show visual and craft creativity abilities, and dramatic thinking, as well as have a basic knowledge of descriptive geometry. Applicants for Theatrical Production programs are required to show the economic thinking abilities.

Film and TV School of AMU (FAMU)
Bachelor’s study programs in Cinema, TV, Photography and New Media Audiovisual Art
First stage – the following works are submitted: 2 works of authorship (audio/video up to 15 minutes and accompanying text) analysis of an audiovisual work or essay
Second stage: written analysis of the artwork test in English (translation into Czech and a summary of the text in English) interview
Animation Creativity
First stage – the following works are submitted: analysis of any animated film an animation film project visual work animation work

Documentary Creativity

Photography
First stage – the following works are submitted: free creativity (8–12 black and white or color photos) one genre photos (20 max) publication draft technical photo of still life

Cinematography
First stage – the following works are submitted: 10 photographs of different genres – preferably black and white photo script of a game scene as a film project on a given topic 8 mood photos on a given topic a photo script on a free topic 8 images on a given topic (conceptual selection of photos with internal connection)

Producing
The first stage: written tests in culture, cinema and television, knowledge of terminology, history and current state of cinema and television, basic economic and legal knowledge, logical thinking ability. test in a foreign language math test

Directing
First stage – the following works are submitted: two own films: on a free topic (10 minutes each) and a film self portrait or portrait of another person (1-2 minutes, no music) story outline or draft of a 20-30 minute film on one page How I Understand Filmmaking essay a photo script on a given topic
Second stage: representation and analysis of a full-length film test in culture, especially cinema writing a dramatic piece on a given topic essay on a given topic interview
Screenwriting and Dramaturgy
First stage – the following works are submitted: fiction film project three short stories analysis of two full-length films
Second stage: written tests in culture, film analysis and essay on a given topic interview (literature, cinema, television, music and fine arts)
Editing
First stage – the following works are submitted: written analysis of a famous film photo script (12-15 photos) thematic selection of photos (7-10) with a common aesthetic theme short film which was edited by the applicant work of authorship (story, selection of photos), poem, drawing
The second stage: written test in culture creating drawings for the storyboard on the given topic written analysis of a film interview
Sound Engineering
First stage – the following works are submitted: sound composition on a given topic written analysis of a full-length film from the sound point of view essay on a given topic
The second stage: interview with test of musical abilities test in general culture test in acoustic analysis, sound memory and imagination test in the basics of electroacoustics and sound technology
The third stage: written analysis of the sound of the given film pieces practical assignment – a simple mix of words and music
