Ostrava is the third largest city of Czech Republic, and it could be named as its industrial heart, with its serious interest in the country’s mining and metallurgy field. No wonder that students of technical specializations here have unique possibilities of practice and research in the field. However, Ostrava is not only an industrial city – it is also a cultural capital of Moravian-Silesian region, where art and music events, such as Colors of Ostrava summer festival, take place. Nowadays, VSB has 7 faculties and more than 11 300 students are studying here
It originates from a mining academy in the town Jáchymov, founded in 1716. In 1945 the University was moved to Ostrava.
VSB still has a great interest in the mining field, as the University is a member of the Czech Mining Technique Association.
Technological University of Ostrava has the largest science and technology center in the Moravian-Silesian Region, which regularly recruits hundreds of University‘s graduates.
Every year, Ostrava Technical University organizes the largest job fair in the Czech Republic, where students can meet potential employers, have an interview and already get a job.
VSB owns Czech National Supercomputing Center (IT4Innovations), launched in 2015. One of its supercomputers, named Karolina, was, as the Center says, the most efficient supercomputer in Czech Republic at the time of its installation. It also had 8th place in Green500, world ranking of the most „green“ efficient supercomputers.
Technological University of Ostrava has one of the largest student campuses in Europe. This is a great place for studying, but also it offers a lot of opportunities to hang out with other students, take part in different student clubs, sport events, parties, etc.

VSB also has its newly-opened branch in the city of Erbil, Kurdistan. There, the University provides high-quality education in the technological field in English language, as well as do research and help with geological engineering in Kurdistan.
University‘s commercial cooperations The Technical University of Ostrava also cooperates closely with domestic and foreign private companies and Czech public sector through different kinds of grants or direct contracts. With its decreasing income from these partnerships and collaborations, the University now finds itself among the leading public research organizations in Czechia.

Want to study in Czech or English? If you want to study at the Technological University of Ostrava for free, you can do it in Czech language. You must only obtain Czech-language Certificate of Proficiency in the Czech Language at the B2 level.
Several faculties in VSB also offer Bachelor‘s and Master‘s programs in English. This education is paid – the tuition fee differs from faculty to faculty. Average price of an English-taught program in Technical University in Ostrava is 3000-4000 euros per year.

Application deadlines in VSB All Czech-language Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degree programs in Technical University in Ostrava have their application deadlines on 31st March. As for English-taught programs, application deadlines are earlier, on 28th of February.
