Vysoké učení technické v Brně (VUT)

Brno University of Technology is the oldest university in the city. Its history began in 1849, when the German-Czech Technical School was founded.

Nowadays there are 24 thousands of students studying at 8 faculties and 2 educational institutes of VUT.

Brno University of Technology is included in the international ranking of the world's TOP 500 universities, which is published every autumn in the supplement (The Times Higher Education Supplement) of the British newspaper The Times.

Submission of applications

Receiving applications from applicants to the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts is open until November 30th. Receiving applications for all other departments is open until March 31th.

Conditions for admission of foreign applicants

Foreigners pass the Czech Language Certificate Exam at the B2 level.

Entrance exams

Entrance exams for most fields of study consist of a written test on the field of study. Part of the entrance exams for the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and some fields of study of the Faculty of Civil Engineering is a creative exam.

Faculty of Architecture (FA)

Bachelor's study programme

• Architecture and Urban Design (duration - 4 years)

Submission of applications: Until November 30th (foreign applicants have to submit their Czech Language Certificate at the B2 level and nostrification of their certificate along with their application)

Entrance exams: The exam consists of two stages. The first stage - the creative exam - takes place in January and consists of three assignments: 1) drawing from a figure (pencil drawing, 60 minutes), 2) architecture assignment - interior, exterior, composition (pencil drawing, 120 minutes), and 3) spatial drawing (pencil drawing, 30 minutes).

The second step is submitting a result on the National Comparative Exam on General Prerequisites for Learning (OSP SCIO).

Master's study programme

• Architecture and Urban Design (duration - 2 years)

Applications must be submitted until March 15th

Entrance exams: You must submit a portfolio consisting of academic and nonacademic papers (maximum A3 size, maximum of 50 pages). There will be an oral interview.

The entrance exam is written and consists of 10 assignments on 5 topics. The amount meets the corresponding Bachelor's programme.

The entrance exam tests knowledge in the scope of the state examination of the corresponding Bachelor's programme. Knowledge of chemical disciplines and skills in calculating chemical reactions are tested.

Entrance exams

When you are admitted to the Architecture of Building Constructions - you first pass a creative exam, consisting of three parts: 1) drawing of the composition of geometric figures, 2) drawing of a sitting figure from the model, 3) sketch of the interior on the assignment. The second stage is the subject exam, which also consists of three parts: 1) projective geometry (solving 3 assignments), 2) math (test), 3) professional discussion

For the admission to the rest of the faculty's programmes - you write a test in math (10 assignments) and physics (10 assignments).

Entrance exams

Exams are held in two stages: 1) submission of the homeworks (in January). The maximum is 25 works. 2) creative exam (in February)

The exam consists of 4 practical assignments, which are completed by the applicant within 2 days. The first assignment - general for all fields of study, the rest - depending on the field of study. Applicants also write a test that checks their knowledge in art history and their general level of culture.

Entrance exams are held in September. The creative exam consists of a presentation of work (portfolio) to the commission. The next step is an interview, at which the applicant must present their project within the Master's programme requirements - theoretical knowledge of the field of study, creative work and bibliography are assessed. The recommended volume of work is 2 pages (practical and theoretical parts).
